Is a NC employer required to reimburse job related milage? What is the law?
SMT Asks: My daughter is required to drive numerous miles, utilizing her personal car, for her job. Is her employer required to reimburse her for her mileage and wear and tear on her car? We live in NC. Thank YOU!
Answer: They are not required to do so, but she can deduct any unreimbursed business expenses on her taxes, so she should keep a log of her business trips along with receipts for all car-related expenses.
It is unusual for companies to do not reimburse employees for mileage - she may want to check with their employee handbook or HR to see what their expense reimbursement policy is.
