Social Network Strategies for the Job Seeker
Building a large high-quality network on linkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter can give you an opportunity to share your expertise with a huge audience of potential employers and peers. Unfortunately most people don’t even know where to begin when it comes to building a social network. This article will give you a jump start.
Complete your profile: Before building your network, complete your profile. The more information you add to your profile, the easier it is to build your network. This information will also naturally fill your profile with keywords making you show up more frequently in relevant searches. When finished, many social networks will serve as a secondary example of your resume live on the internet.
Give more than you get: This is the general principal of web 2.0. As you give, people will be more compelled to give back. Share information on your social networks anytime you find it. If you find an article that teaches about the job you used to do, tweet it. If you learn something new about a company, post it on your wall. If you hear a great speaker or are amazed by someone really skilled, recommend them on linkedIn. The more you post on these networks, the more people will follow you. Then if you ask for a job, your followers will be happy to help spread the word.
Build your network: The fastest way to build your network is to build other peoples networks. If you find someone who interests you, has information relevant to your target job, or works for a target company, follow them. Then post or re-tweet one of their messages. 30+% of the time, they will follow you back within 48 hours. This will add to the number of people who hear your message when you ask for the job.
Don’t be afraid to ask: Every so often, post a message on your social media network asking for the job you want. If you don’t ask, they can’t help you.

Maintaining your profile on social media while job-seeking, is very important.
Another way to manage your Online Reputation is using a new tool called LookupPage (www.lookuppage.com), a platform on which you can create your own personal web page, simply managing and tracking content (such as CVs). The web page shows up on all search engines, including Google’s first page, so visibility is guaranteed.
Check it out…
