Selling a company on the advantages of hiring you is just like selling any other highly valuable products. At any given time only a small percentage of individuals are ready to buy this product at this time. In other words, only a limited few would be able to hire you even if they wanted to. The big trick is to find those few people, but how? Filling your sales pipeline with massive number of potential buyers I.E. potential employers is the only way to find them. These 6 tips will help you fill that pipeline and find your next employer.

Friends & Family – Your friends and family know you better than anyone else. They are your best cheerleaders and broadcasters. Each can be a walking ambassador. Teach them what it is you do, if they don’t already know. Share with them a list of potential companies that may hire you. Ask them to help you find people in the company or people that know the hiring manager.

Old business cards – Dig deep into your stack of business cards. Find any that may connect you to a potential hiring manager, either directly or through a third party.

Headhunters / Executive recruiters – Executive recruiters, also known as headhunters, are retained by hiring managers to find employees they can not find on their own. Building relationships with these types of individuals can open doors to opportunities that you can’t get to on your own.

Employee Marketing Services – Much like marketing firms in the business world, employee marketing services work with individuals to build and execute a marketing plan focused on finding a job. They leverage relationships with employers and hiring managers to get your resume directly in front of individuals who would usually be hidden behind layers of HR. However, these services are usually paid for in advance by the individual even if they are not successful in landing a single interview. Be careful if you choose this route and review the marketing service thoroughly.

Resume Distribution Services – These software applications will distribute your resume and career information to a number of headhunters, recruiters, and potential hiring managers. Much like employee marketing services, there is a cost associated with many of these services. However, it is typically much more reasonable.

Career Sites – The newest generation of resume distribution & job hunting tools are the career sites. These websites allow employees to post their resumes online. Then employers can find the resumes of potential employees and post jobs they need filled. In exchange, employees can apply to those jobs through the career site.

Depending on the job you are after and the size of your existing network, one or more of these tools could make a huge difference in the success of your job search.
