With the national unemployment rate at… let’s just call it “uncomfortable” levels, it feels like most Wall Street traded companies are cruising around like silly little tug boats. Meanwhile, some companies overseas are cruising at high speed, like in one of those powerboats. Companies in Finland, Dubai, and yes, even Canada don’t seem to pay much attention to the global recession and are actively hiring.

In every country, certain regions are doing better than others. Take Montreal, Canada for example, you’ll find a growing industry in video game development. Another example would be the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where Dubai in particular is becoming an airline industry nexus.

All this wouldn’t mean much to you of course unless you have a shot at getting hired by one of these companies. Here’s a quick look at a few companies that flip the bird to the recession. We’ll tell you who these companies are and what kind of positions they’re looking to fill.

BMW (Germany)
Who wouldn’t want to work for BMW (especially due to employee discounts)? BMW is the world’s best-known car brand and requires no further description.

BMW is hiring engineers in electronics and electricity for their Munich, Germany headquarters. ‘BM-Dub’ is also hiring information scientists as well as mechanical engineers with working experience in auto bodies, chassis, and motors. BMW is expecting most growth in automotive engineering and information technology.

Ubisoft (Canada)
If you’ve played more than a few video games, you’ve probably heard of Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and/or Assassin’s Creed. What these games have in common is that they’re developed and published by Ubisoft. Ubisoft has been around for many many years and is headquartered in France. Nowadays however, the biggst Ubisoft studio, at over 2,000 employees, is located in Montreal. Even in this recession, Ubisoft Montreal is looking to add over 1,000 new employees by the year 2013.

Finland’s Nokia
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for say, a good 15 years, you’ve probably heard of Nokia. If you thought Apple’s iPhone was popular, you’ll probably be surprised to hear that Nokia sold almost 50 times as many phones as Apple so far in 2009. Nokia is currently seeking to fill over 200 different types of jobs around the world.

Nokia is currently seeking staff to develop Internet based entertainment services including navigation utilities, mapping technology, video games, music, social media applications. Another large area of development are communication services such as text messaging, instant messaging, and email. Nokia is currently hiring in location around the world, including Berlin, Germany (for location-based services, Montreal, Canada (consumer messaging), and Bristol, UK (for music and related products and services). The Emirates Group (UAE)
Based in Dubai, The Emirates Group is the parent company of Emirates Airlines, one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. EA is well on it’s way to have the world’s largest long-haul fleet of aircraft. Just in the past 8 years, Emirates Airlines has hired an impressive 40,000 new employees from 155 different nationalities.
Apart from hiring people for their airline branch such as cabin crew, pilots, and engineers, the Emirates Group is also looking for airline commercial staff, marketers, HR professionals, promotions/events management staff, and finance & treasury professionals. They’re also hiring lawyers, procurement specialists, IT business analysts, airport operational and terminal staff, sales and call center personal, and cargo staff.
